Bhīṣma’s Yogic Departure, Royal Cremation, and Gaṅgā’s Lament (भीष्मस्य योगयुक्त्या देहत्यागः, पितृमेधः, गङ्गाविलापः)
अप्येवात्मवध॑ लोके राजंस्त्वं बहु मन्यसे । न हि प्रतिज्ञा या दत्ता तां प्रहातुमरिंदम
apy evātmavadhaṁ loke rājan tvaṁ bahu manyase | na hi pratijñā yā dattā tāṁ prahātum arindama ||
भीष्म म्हणाले— राजन्! या लोकात आत्मवधालाच तू अधिक महत्त्व देतोस काय? शत्रुदमना! तू दिलेली प्रतिज्ञा सोडणे तुला योग्य नाही. शत्रूंना जिंकून न्यायाने प्रजापालन करण्याचा व्रत तू घेतलास; शोकाने आत्महत्येचा विचार करणे म्हणजे त्या धर्मसंकल्पातून ढळणे होय.
