वृत्र इत्यभिविख्यातो यस्तु राजन् महासुर: । मणिमाजन्नाम राजर्षि: स बभूव नराधिप:,राजन! जो वृत्र नामसे विख्यात (और विक्षरका चौथा भाई) महान् असुर था, वही पृथ्वीपर राजर्षि मणिमानके नामसे प्रसिद्ध भूपाल हुआ
vṛtra ity abhivikhyāto yas tu rājan mahāsuraḥ | maṇimān nāma rājarṣiḥ sa babhūva narādhipaḥ ||
वैशंपायन म्हणाला—राजन्! ‘वृत्र’ या नावाने विख्यात जो महान असुर होता, तोच पृथ्वीवर ‘मणिमान’ या नावाने प्रसिद्ध राजर्षी-राजा झाला.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights transformation across births and statuses: a being famed as an Asura can later appear as a human king-sage, suggesting the complex workings of karma and the fluidity of identity in epic history.
Vaiśampāyana informs the king that the renowned Asura Vṛtra later took birth on earth as a ruler, known among humans as the royal sage Maṇimān.
