Educational Q&A

The verse underscores how the epic frames ethical and political life through distinct narrative milestones: wise counsel entering the scene (Vidura), legitimate or contested sovereignty (rājya-lābha), disciplined endurance in exile (vana-vāsa), and alliance-building through marriage (Subhadrā-haraṇa). It teaches that dharma is explored not only in speeches but also through the sequence of consequential life-events.

A speaker is enumerating forthcoming sections (parvas) of the Mahābhārata’s storyline: first Vidura’s arrival, then the attainment of kingship, then Arjuna’s forest-dwelling, and finally the episode of Subhadrā being carried away (the Subhadrā-haraṇa episode).
