Rāsa-līlā Begins; Divine Multiplication; Moral Doubt and Its Resolution
nāsūyan khalu kṛṣṇāya mohitās tasya māyayā manyamānāḥ sva-pārśva-sthān svān svān dārān vrajaukasaḥ
Because the gopīs loved Kṛṣṇa exclusively, Yoga-māyā protected their relationship with the Lord at all times, even though they were married. Śrīla Viśvanātha Cakravartī quotes from the Ujjvala-nīlamaṇi as follows:
This verse says they were covered by Kṛṣṇa’s māyā (Yoga-māyā), so each felt his own wife was beside him and thus no envy toward Kṛṣṇa arose.
It means “bewildered by His māyā”—Kṛṣṇa’s divine potency arranged perception so the Vraja residents experienced a reality that prevented mundane jealousy and disturbance.
It teaches that Kṛṣṇa’s līlā is governed by divine potency, not ordinary morality; a devotee avoids envy and instead cultivates śraddhā (faith), humility, and reverent hearing from authentic sources.
