This verse explains why the Supreme Personality of Godhead appears as an incarnation again and again. The incarnations of the Supreme Personality of Godhead all function differently, but their main purpose is paritrāṇāya sādhūnāṁ vināśāya ca duṣkṛtām — to protect the devotees and annihilate the miscreants. Yet even though the duṣkṛtīs, or miscreants, are annihilated, this is ultimately good for them.

FAQs

This verse says the Lord assumes forms to awaken true knowledge and ensure the ultimate welfare of all beings; His divine manifestations delight devotees and subdue the wicked.

The demigods pray to the Lord as He is about to appear in Devaki’s womb, acknowledging that His descent benefits the world—protecting the saintly and checking the miscreants.

See divine guidance as meant for inner awakening and well-being; cultivate goodness and devotion to experience the Lord’s presence as joy, and avoid harmful habits that make spiritual truth feel “inauspicious” to the ego.
