FAQs

It teaches disciplined reverence toward Śiva’s prasad (naivedya). In Śaiva practice, what is offered to Pati (Śiva) becomes sanctified; delaying or treating it casually weakens devotional attentiveness and creates a lapse in dharmic conduct, described here as a “contact with demerit.”

In Liṅga/Saguṇa-Śiva worship, naivedya is a direct upacāra (service). Promptly receiving and honoring it acknowledges Śiva’s grace returning as prasad. Postponing it implies negligence toward the completed arcana and the sanctity of the offering.

A practical takeaway is to consume or respectfully distribute Śiva-prasad without needless delay, maintaining śauca (purity) and bhakti. If done in a pūjā sequence, conclude with prasad-sevana while remembering Śiva (e.g., mentally repeating the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”).
