Pārthiva-pratimā Pūjā-vidhāna — Procedure for Worship of an Earthen Icon
बिंदुनादात्मकं लिंगं जगत्कारणमुच्यते । बिंदुर्देवीशिवो नादः शिवलिंगं तु कथ्यते
biṃdunādātmakaṃ liṃgaṃ jagatkāraṇamucyate | biṃdurdevīśivo nādaḥ śivaliṃgaṃ tu kathyate
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Liṅgodbhava
Sthala Purana: Not a specific jyotirliṅga-sthala here; the verse gives a universal definition of Śiva-liṅga as the causal sign constituted by Bindu (Śakti) and Nāda (Śiva).
Significance: Frames all liṅga-darśana and liṅga-pūjā as approach to the jagat-kāraṇa (causal Lord), not merely a local deity.
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: creative
Offering: pushpa
Cosmic Event: jagat-kāraṇatva (liṅga as causal matrix of manifestation)
It identifies the Shiva-Linga as the cosmic cause, revealing that creation arises from the inseparable unity of Shiva and Shakti (Bindu) and the primal divine vibration (Nada), guiding the devotee from outer worship to inner realization.
The Linga is presented as Saguna worship’s sacred focus that also points to the subtle, formless source: Shiva-Shakti as Bindu and the inner sound-current as Nada—so Linga worship becomes a bridge to the transcendent reality.
Along with traditional Linga-puja, the verse supports inner upasana—steady meditation on the bindu (one-pointed awareness) and nada (subtle inner sound), ideally accompanied by japa of the Panchakshara “Om Namah Shivaya.”
