Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Sthala Purana: Motif: desecration/throwing of a liṅga leading to heightened karmic consequence and eventual revelation of Śiva’s supremacy (common purāṇic pattern; here localized to this chapter’s narrative).
Offering: pushpa
It highlights the grave karmic and spiritual fault of obstructing or desecrating Śiva-pūjā; in Śaiva Siddhānta, devotion (bhakti) and reverence to Śiva’s sacred form are purifying, while contempt toward it strengthens bondage (pāśa) through ego and hostility.
The liṅga is Saguna Śiva’s accessible, consecrated focus for worship; throwing it away symbolizes rejection of divine presence and the devotee’s discipline, showing that outward acts toward the liṅga reflect one’s inner attitude toward Śiva.
Maintain steadiness and non-violence around worship: protect the pūjā-space, honor the liṅga with cleanliness and restraint, and anchor the mind in japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” to counter anger and disrespect.
