Suta Goswami (narrating the Kotirudra Samhita to the sages at Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Sthala Purana: The verse functions as a general mahātmya: among Śiva-liṅgas, a particular liṅga is praised as ‘sārvabhauma’ (universal sovereign) and universally efficacious across yugas and varṇas, emphasizing Śiva’s unrestricted grace through liṅga-upāsanā.
Significance: Universal adhikāra: liṅga-darśana/pūjā is presented as effective for all people and in all times, removing pāpa and preparing the paśu for Śiva’s anugraha (liberating descent of grace).
Type: stotra
Cosmic Event: Caturyuga-scope (all four yugas) is invoked to mark trans-temporal efficacy of Śiva’s grace.
It proclaims the Liṅga’s universal sovereignty and its power to cleanse pāpa across time (all yugas) and society (all varṇas), affirming Śiva’s grace as accessible to every sincere devotee.
The verse presents the Liṅga as Saguna Śiva’s most merciful and universally approachable form—an embodied focus for devotion and purification, through which the devotee is led toward Śiva’s liberating grace.
Regular Śiva-liṅga pūjā—especially darśana and abhiṣeka with mantra-japa (notably the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”)—is implied as a practical means for purification and spiritual uplift.
