उपदेशक्रमो ह्यादौ वक्तव्यश्श्रूयतामयम् । चातुर्व्वर्ण्यं हि लोकेस्मिन्प्रसिद्धम्मानुषे मुने
upadeśakramo hyādau vaktavyaśśrūyatāmayam | cāturvvarṇyaṃ hi lokesminprasiddhammānuṣe mune
ആദ്യം ഉപദേശത്തിന്റെ യഥാക്രമം പറയേണ്ടതാണ്—ഇത് ഇപ്പോൾ ശ്രവിക്കൂ. ഹേ മുനേ, ഈ മനുഷ്യലോകത്തിൽ ചാതുർവർണ്യം (നാലു വർണങ്ങളുടെ ക്രമം) പ്രസിദ്ധമാണ്.
