Hanuman’s Post-Conflagration Self-Examination and Assurance of Sita’s Safety
yas samutpatitaṁ krodhaṁ kṣamayāiva nirasyati | yathoragas tvacaṁ jīrṇāṁ sa vai puruṣa ucyate ||
'A man who drives away his rising anger with tolerance just as a snake casts off its slough is alone called a truly wise man.
Dharma values kṣamā (forbearance) as a mark of true strength; conquering anger internally is higher than external victory.
Hanumān steadies his mind after destructive events, affirming that the righteous response to rising anger is to discard it through forgiveness.
Kṣamā (forgiveness/forbearance): presented as the defining trait of a ‘true person’ (puruṣa).
