Hanuman’s Circuit of Ravana’s Palace and the Crisis of Deliberation
रावणं वा वधिष्यामि दशग्रीवं महाबलम्।।।।काममस्तु हृता सीता प्रत्याचीर्णं भविष्यति।
rāvaṇaṃ vā vadhiṣyāmi daśagrīvaṃ mahābalam |
kāmam astu hṛtā sītā pratyācīrṇaṃ bhaviṣyati ||
അല്ലെങ്കിൽ മഹാബലനായ ദശഗ്രീവൻ രാവണനെ ഞാൻ വധിക്കും. സീതയെ അപഹരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു—എങ്കിലും അതിന് യുക്തമായ പ്രതികാരം ഇതായിരിക്കും; എന്റെ സംकल्पം സഫലമാകും.
"I will kill Ravana, this mighty, ten-headed demon. Sita was indeed carried away by him. This (killing him) can be a fitting reply to his evil action. My desire would be fulfilled.
Justice against adharma: Hanuman considers decisive action against the wrongdoer; wrongdoing (Sītā’s abduction) calls for a dharmic response that protects the innocent.
From despair, Hanuman pivots to an aggressive contingency—killing Rāvaṇa—as a ‘fitting reply’ to the crime.
Valor aligned with righteousness: anger is redirected into the idea of punishing adharma rather than self-destruction.
