The Queens Behold Rama’s Śrāddha Offering
kim eṣa vākyaṃ bharato 'dya rāghavaṃ praṇamya satkṛtya ca sādhu vakṣyati | itīva tasyāryajanasya tattvato babhūva kautūhalam uttamaṃ tadā || 2.103.31 ||
All noble people were truly filled with great curiosity as to what Bharata was going to speak, after paying his homage and honouring Rama.
Dharma requires truthful, worthy speech at decisive moments: the assembly anticipates Bharata’s words because speech (vāk) can restore or rupture righteousness in public life.
With Bharata seated near Rāma after formal honors, the gathered nobles await his statement, sensing its political and ethical weight.
The assembly’s dharmic discernment: they expect ‘sādhu-vākya’—speech that is fitting, truthful, and aligned with righteousness.
