सीतया लक्ष्मणप्रेषणम् — Sita urges Lakshmana to seek Rama

The crisis of the ‘distressed voice’

विमुक्तधर्माश्चपलास्तीक्ष्णा भेदकराः स्त्रियः।न सहे हीदृशं वाक्यं वैदेहि जनकात्मजे।।3.45.30।।श्रोत्रयोरुभयोर्मेद्य तप्तनाराचसन्निभम्।

vimuktadharmāś capalās tīkṣṇā bhedakarāḥ striyaḥ | na sahe hīdṛśaṃ vākyaṃ vaidehi janakātmaje ||3.45.30|| śrotrayor ubhayor medhya tapta-nārāca-sannibham |

ധർമ്മത്തിൽ നിന്നു വിമുഖയായാൽ സ്ത്രീകൾ ചപലയും തീക്ഷ്ണയും മുറിവേൽപ്പിക്കുന്നവളുമായി മാറുന്നു. ഹേ വൈദേഹി, ജനകാത്മജേ! ഇത്തരത്തിലുള്ള വാക്കുകൾ ഞാൻ സഹിക്കുകയില്ല—ഇരുകാതുകളെയും ചൂടേറ്റ അമ്പുപോലെ തുളച്ചുകയറുന്നതുപോലെ.
