रणे रामेण युद्ध्यस्व क्षमां वा कुरु राक्षस ।न ते रामकथा कार्या यदि मां द्रष्टुमिच्छसि ।। ।।
raṇe rāmeṇa yuddhyasva kṣamāṃ vā kuru rākṣasa |
na te rāmakathā kāryā yadi māṃ draṣṭum icchasi ||
യുദ്ധഭൂമിയിൽ രാമനോടു പോരാടുക; അല്ലെങ്കിൽ, ഹേ രാക്ഷസാ, ക്ഷമിച്ചു സമാധാനം ചെയ്യുക. എന്നാൽ എന്നെ ജീവനോടെ കാണണമെന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ, രാമനെക്കുറിച്ച് സംസാരമോ പദ്ധതിയോ ചെയ്യരുത്.

Marīca sets boundaries with Rāvaṇa: he implies that any scheme centered on Rāma will be fatal, and he will not be part of it.
Moral courage: Marīca speaks plainly to power and signals refusal to enable an unrighteous course.
