Winter Description and Reflection on Bharata’s Devotion

prakṛtyā himakośāḍhyo dūrasūryaś ca sāmpratam | yathārthanāmā suvyaktaṃ himavān himavān giriḥ ||

FAQs

The verse highlights satya as correspondence between word and reality: Himavān is ‘true to his name’ because his snowy nature matches what he is called.

The epic voice describes the present natural condition of the Himalayan region—sun distant and snow abundant—using it to affirm the aptness of the mountain’s name.

No single character’s virtue is foregrounded; instead, the text emphasizes truthfulness in description—clarity and accuracy (satya) in representing the world.
