ऋषय ऊचुः । मेरोरथोत्तरं पश्चात्पूर्वमाचक्ष्व सूततः । निखिलेन महाबुद्ध माल्यवंतं च पर्वतम्

ഋഷികൾ പറഞ്ഞു—ഹേ സൂതാ, മേരുവിന്റെ ഉത്തരഭാഗത്തോടൊപ്പം പടിഞ്ഞാറും കിഴക്കും ദിക്കുകളുടെ വിവരണവും ക്രമമായി സമ്പൂർണ്ണമായി പറയുക. ഹേ മഹാബുദ്ധിമാനേ, മാല്യവാൻ എന്ന പർവതത്തെയും സമഗ്രമായി വർണ്ണിക്കുക.
