नि हीनो ह्यपमानेन निंदिते नैति विक्रियाम् । असतां तु सतां न स्यान्मर्मस्पृष्टो नरः किल

ni hīno hyapamānena niṃdite naiti vikriyām | asatāṃ tu satāṃ na syānmarmaspṛṣṭo naraḥ kila

അപമാനത്താൽ സജ്ജനൻ ഹീനനാകുന്നില്ല; നിന്ദിക്കപ്പെട്ടാലും അവൻ വികാരഭ്രാന്തനാകുന്നില്ല. എന്നാൽ ദുഷ്ടരുടെ ഇടയിൽ മർമ്മം തൊട്ടാൽ സത്പുരുഷനും പഴയപോലെ ഇരിക്കില്ല—മനുഷ്യൻ തീർച്ചയായും പ്രതികരിക്കുന്നു.
