The Greatness of Kārtika
saṃvatsarakṛtātpāpādbrahirbhavati tatkṣaṇāt | prāpnoti rājakīṃ yoniṃ sakṛdbhakṣaṇasaṃbhavāt || 55 ||
Sage Sanatkumara (teaching Narada)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
It emphasizes the extraordinary purificatory power of a sanctioned sacred act—here, a single consumption connected with dharmic practice—capable of destroying a year’s accumulated sin and generating immediate auspicious merit.
Though framed in terms of karma-phala, the verse supports bhakti-culture by highlighting the efficacy of consecrated offerings (prasada/naivedya) received through reverent participation in sacred rites and holy places.
Ritual application (Kalpa) is implied: properly sanctioned acts—such as consuming a ritually connected offering—are presented as producing specific, measurable results (papa-kshaya and punya), reflecting the Purana’s practical dharma orientation.
