Adhyaya 84The Gods’ Hymn after the Slaying of Mahishasura and the Goddess’ Boon

te saṃmatā janapadeṣu dhanāni teṣāṃ teṣāṃ yaśāṃsi na ca sīdati dharmavargaḥ / dhanyāsta eva nibhṛtātmajabhṛtyadārā yeṣāṃ sadābhyudayadā bhavatī prasannā

FAQs

The verse establishes that worldly success (artha), fame (yashas), and the preservation of righteousness (dharma) are not merely results of human effort but are contingent upon the Grace (Prasada) of the Divine Mother. It synthesizes the pursuit of material well-being with spiritual devotion.

This verse is embedded within the Manvantara characteristic of the Purana, specifically describing the narrative of the Savarni Manu period where the Devi's exploits are central.

It portrays the Goddess as 'Abhyudayada' (Giver of Rise/Prosperity). Esoterically, this signifies that the Shakti is the underlying energy that sustains social order and domestic stability, transforming the chaotic energy of the demons into the constructive energy of the householder's life.
