Adhyaya 8 — Vasu's Redemption
यदि वः कस्यचित् कार्यं दास्या प्राणेष्टया मम ।
स ब्रवीतु त्वरायुक्तो यावत् सन्धारयाम्यहम् ॥
yadi vaḥ kasyacit kāryaṃ dāsyā prāṇeṣṭayā mama | sa brīvītu tvarāyukto yāvat sandhārayāmy aham ||
നിങ്ങളിൽ ആര്ക്കെങ്കിലും എന്റെ പ്രിയ ദാസിയുമായി എന്തെങ്കിലും കാര്യമുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ, ഞാൻ അവളെ തടഞ്ഞുവെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതിനാൽ വേഗം പറയുക।
The verse dramatizes the Goddess’ absolute mastery: even amid violent conflict she is portrayed as fully in control—able to restrain, pause, and command. Ethically, it reinforces the Puranic motif that adharma’s aggression is ultimately contained by a higher, conscious power (śakti), not by mere chance.
This is primarily within the Purana’s narrative/upākhyāna layer rather than a direct pancalakṣaṇa item. By classification it aligns most closely with vaṃśānucarita/itihāsa-like narration (exemplary sacred history) rather than sarga/pratisarga/manvantara/vaṃśa proper.
Esoterically, ‘holding back’ (sandhāraṇa) suggests śakti as the regulating intelligence that restrains and measures out the forces of conflict. The ‘beloved attendant’ can be read symbolically as the Goddess’ own power-in-action (śakti/tejas) which she can deploy or withhold at will—indicating that all energies, even those appearing autonomous in battle, remain under the sovereignty of the Divine.
