Adhyaya 49 — Primordial Human Creation, the Rise of Desire, and the Origins of Settlements, Measures, and Agriculture
जातास्ते ह्युपपद्यन्ते सत्त्वोद्रिक्ताः स्वतेजसः ।
सहस्रमन्यद् वक्षस्तः मिथुनानां ससर्ज ह ॥
jātās te hy upapadyante sattvodriktāḥ svatejasaḥ / sahasram anyad vakṣas taḥ mithunānāṃ sasarja ha
ജനിച്ചവർ സത്ത്വപ്രധാനരായി, സ്വന്തം തേജസ്സാൽ ദീപ്തരായിരുന്നു. തുടർന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം തന്റെ വക്ഷസ്ഥലത്തിൽ നിന്ന് മറ്റൊരു ആയിരം ജോഡികളെ സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു।

Sattva is linked with luminosity and harmony. The verse suggests that clarity and inner radiance are natural outcomes of sattvic predominance—an implicit ideal for cultivated character.
Sarga: continued differentiation of created beings by guṇa and by symbolic source (body-region of Brahmā).
The chest/heart-region can signify prāṇa and inner disposition. ‘Self-luminous’ points to consciousness reflecting itself when sattva predominates.
