Adhyaya 14 — The Messenger of Yama Explains Karmic Retribution and the Causes of Naraka Torments
उपाध्यायमधः कृत्वा स्तब्धो योऽध्ययनं नरः ।
गृह्णाति शिल्पमथवा सोऽप्येवं शिरसा शिलाम् ॥
upādhyāyam adhaḥ kṛtvā stabdho yo 'dhyayanaṃ naraḥ / gṛhṇāti śilpam athavā so 'pyevaṃ śirasā śilām
അഹങ്കാരത്തോടെ ഗുരുവിനെ അവഗണിച്ച് പഠനം ചെയ്യുന്നതോ—അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ഒരു ശിൽപം പഠിക്കുന്നതോ ചെയ്യുന്നവനും ശിക്ഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു; അവൻ തലയിൽ കല്ല് ചുമക്കുന്നു।

Knowledge and skill are not morally neutral; they are to be received with humility and proper regard for the teacher. Disrespect (guru-apacāra) corrupts learning and yields heavy karmic burden.
Dharma/ācāra instruction (conduct around learning), not a direct pancalakṣaṇa item.
The ‘stone on the head’ symbolizes the weight of pride and misused intellect—learning without reverence becomes a crushing load rather than liberation.
