अभिशापादहं भीतो मिथ्यावादात्‌ परंतप । स्‍्नुषार्थमुत्तरां राजन्‌ प्रतिगृह्लामि ते सुताम्‌,परंतप! मैं अभिशाप और मिथ्यावादसे डरता हूँ, (यदि मैं आपकी पुत्रीको पत्नीरूपमें ग्रहण करूँ, तो लोग यह कल्पना कर सकते हैं कि इन दोनोंमें पहलेसे ही अनुचित सम्बन्ध था;) इसलिये राजन! मैं आपकी पुत्री उत्तराको पुत्रवधूके रूपमें ही ग्रहण करता हूँ

abhishāpād ahaṁ bhīto mithyāvādāt paraṁtapa | snuṣārtham uttarāṁ rājan pratigṛhṇāmi te sutām ||

പരന്തപാ! ശാപത്തെയും അസത്യവാദത്തിന്റെ കളങ്കത്തെയും ഞാൻ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ട്, രാജാവേ, നിങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രി ഉത്തരയെ ഞാൻ ഭാര്യയായി അല്ല—എന്റെ പുത്രന്റെ വധുവായി മാത്രമേ സ്വീകരിക്കൂ; കാരണം ഞാൻ അവളെ തന്നെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചാൽ, നമ്മൾക്കിടയിൽ മുൻപേ അനാചാരബന്ധം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുവെന്ന് ജനങ്ങൾ സംശയിക്കാം.
