वैशम्पायन उवाच राजा विराटो5थ भृशाभितप्त: श्रुत्वा सुतं त्वेकरथेन यातम् । बृहन्नलासारथिमाजिवर्धनं प्रोवाच सर्वानथ मन्त्रिमुख्यान्
vaiśampāyana uvāca rājā virāṭo 'tha bhṛśābhitaptaḥ śrutvā sutaṃ tv ekaratheṇa yātam | bṛhannalāsārathim ājivardhanaṃ provāca sarvān atha mantrimukhyān ||
വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു—തന്റെ പുത്രൻ ഒറ്റ രഥം മാത്രവുമായി പുറപ്പെട്ടുവെന്ന് കേട്ട് വിരാടരാജാവ് അത്യന്തം വ്യാകുലനായി. തുടർന്ന് ബൃഹന്നലയെ സാരഥിയാക്കി പോയ ആജീവർധനൻ (ഉത്തരൻ) സംബന്ധിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹം എല്ലാ പ്രധാന മന്ത്രിമാരോടും സംസാരിച്ചു.
