पाण्डवपरिचयः—विराटसभायां प्रकाशनम्

तद् भीष्मवाक्यं हितमीक्ष्य सर्वे धनंजयाग्निं च विवर्धमानम् | निवर्तनायैव मनो निदध्यु- दुर्योधनं ते परिरक्षमाणा:
tad bhīṣmavākyaṃ hitam īkṣya sarve dhanañjayāgniṃ ca vivardhamānam | nivartanāyaiva mano nidadhyur duryodhanaṃ te parirakṣamāṇāḥ ||
വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഭീഷ്മന്റെ ആ ഉപദേശം എല്ലാവർക്കും ഹിതകരമായി തോന്നി; കാരണം യുദ്ധം മുന്നോട്ടു തള്ളിയാൽ ധനഞ്ജയൻ എന്ന അഗ്നി കൂടുതൽ കൂടുതൽ ജ്വലിച്ചു ഭീകരമാകുമായിരുന്നു. അതു കണ്ട്, ദുര്യോധനനെ സംരക്ഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ട്, അവർ പിന്മാറ്റത്തിലേക്കു മാത്രം മനസ്സുറപ്പിച്ച് സ്വന്തം ദേശത്തേക്ക് മടങ്ങാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു.
