वैशम्पायन उवाच
This verse is a colophon (chapter-ending notice), not a doctrinal instruction. Its ethical function is contextual: it frames the narrated combat as part of the escalating adharma-driven rivalry, reminding the reader that episodes of violence are embedded within a larger moral history and textual structure.
The narrator signals the completion of the sixty-first chapter of the Yo-haraṇa section within the Virāṭa Parva, indicating that the preceding narration concerned a battle involving Arjuna and Duḥśāsana (and others). It serves as a formal closure before the text proceeds to the next chapter.
