पुरा मातुः पितुर्वापि यदि पश्यामि विप्रियम् । न जीविष्ये वरारोहे सत्येनात्मानमालभे,वरारोहे! मैं सत्यकी शपथ खाकर अपना शरीर छूकर कहता हूँ, यदि मैं माता अथवा पिताका अप्रिय देखूँगा तो जीवित नहीं रहूँगा
purā mātuḥ pitur vāpi yadi paśyāmi vipriyam | na jīviṣye varārohe satyenātmānam ālabhe ||
മാർക്കണ്ഡേയൻ പറഞ്ഞു—“ഹേ സുനിതംബിനി! പണ്ടെ ഞാൻ സത്യത്തെ സാക്ഷിയാക്കി, സ്വന്തം ശരീരം സ്പർശിച്ച് ശപഥം ചെയ്തു—‘മാതാവിനോ പിതാവിനോ അപ്രിയമായതു ഞാൻ ഒരിക്കൽ കണ്ടാൽ, ഞാൻ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുകയില്ല.’”
