Sāvitrī–Satyavān Vivāha: Kanyāpradāna and Āśrama-Śīla (सावित्री-सत्यवान्विवाहः)
अफक्रान्ते च काकुत्स्थे सीता वश्या भविष्यति । तामादायापनेष्यामि ततः स न भविष्यति
akrānte ca kākutsthe sītā vaśyā bhaviṣyati | tām ādāyāpaneṣyāmi tataḥ sa na bhaviṣyati ||
“കാകുത്സ്ഥനായ രാമൻ മയങ്ങി അകന്നുപോയാൽ സീത എന്റെ അധീനയാകും. അവളെ എടുത്തുകൊണ്ട് ഞാൻ അപഹരിച്ച് കൊണ്ടുപോകും; പിന്നെ അവൻ (രാമൻ) നിലനിൽക്കുകയില്ല.”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse illustrates the mindset of adharma: reducing a person to an object of control (“vaśyā”) and justifying violence through opportunism. Ethically, it highlights how desire and domination lead to wrongdoing and the threat of destruction.
In Mārkaṇḍeya’s narration of the Rāma-story, a hostile speaker declares an intention to wait until Rāma is overcome, then seize Sītā and carry her away, asserting that after this Rāma will not survive.
