Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how fear in others can provoke wrath and how anger, when coupled with concentrated resolve (samāhita), quickly becomes a drive toward violence. In the Mahābhārata’s ethical frame, it serves as a caution about the momentum of krodha (anger) and the need for restraint even amid conflict.

Vaiśampāyana narrates that the Gandharva-king Citrasena, seeing the opponents frightened, becomes intensely angry and, determined to kill the enemies, leaps up from his seat—signaling the immediate escalation toward combat.
