महामखेष्वाड्िरसी दीप्तिमत्सु महामते । महामतीति विख्याता सप्तमी कथ्यते सुता,महामते! जो दीप्तिशाली सोमयाग आदि महायज्ञोंमें प्रकाशित होनेके कारण “महामती' नामसे विख्यात है, वह (प्रतिपद्युक्त अमावास्या) अंगिरा मुनिकी सातवीं पुत्री कहलाती है

Transliteration

mahāmakheṣv āṅgirasi dīptimatsu mahāmate | mahāmatīti vikhyātā saptamī kathyate sutā ||

Translation

മാർക്കണ്ഡേയൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഹേ മഹാമതേ! അങ്ഗിരസ പരമ്പരയോട് ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട ദീപ്തിമാന മഹായജ്ഞങ്ങളിൽ ‘മഹാമതി’ എന്ന നാമത്തിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധയായ അവൾ ഏഴാം പുത്രിയെന്നു പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.
