ततो5स्मि पतितो भूमौ न च मामजहात् स्मृति: स्मार्तमस्ति पुराणं मे यथैवाधिगतं तथा,“उनके इतना कहते ही मैं पृथ्वीपर गिर पड़ा। परंतु आज भी वह पुरानी स्मरण-शक्ति मुझे छोड़ नहीं सकी है। यद्यपि यह वृत्तान्त बहुत पुराना हो चुका है तथापि जो कुछ जैसे हुआ था; वह सब मुझे ज्यों-का-त्यों स्मरण है
tato ’smi patito bhūmau na ca mām ajahāt smṛtiḥ | smārtam asti purāṇaṃ me yathaivādhigataṃ tathā ||
അവൻ അങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞതുമാത്രം ഞാൻ ഭൂമിയിൽ വീണു; എങ്കിലും എന്റെ സ്മൃതി എന്നെ വിട്ടുപോയില്ല. ഈ വൃത്താന്തം അതിപുരാതനമായാലും, സംഭവിച്ചതെല്ലാം എങ്ങനെ ഉണ്ടായോ അതുപോലെ തന്നെ എനിക്ക് ഓർമ്മയിൽ നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു.
