Kāmyaka Forest Meeting: Kṛṣṇa’s Visit; Mārkaṇḍeya and Nārada Arrive
नहुषो नाम राजर्षिव््यक्ते ते श्रोत्रमागत:ः तवैव पूर्व: पूर्वेषामायोरवशधर: सुतः,“मैं राजर्षि नहुष हूँ, अवश्य ही यह मेरा नाम तुम्हारे कानोंमें पड़ा होगा। मैं तुम्हारे पूर्वजोंका भी पूर्वज हूँ। महाराज आयुका वंशप्रवर्तक पुत्र हूँ
nahuṣo nāma rājarṣir vyakte te śrotram āgataḥ | tavaiva pūrvaḥ pūrveṣām āyor vaṃśadharaḥ sutaḥ ||
“ഞാൻ നഹുഷൻ എന്ന രാജർഷിയാണ്; എന്റെ പേര് നിന്റെ ചെവിയിൽ തീർച്ചയായും എത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ടാകും. ഞാൻ നിന്റെ പൂർവ്വികരുടെ പൂർവ്വികൻ— മഹാരാജാവ് ആയുവിന്റെ വംശധാരകനായ പുത്രൻ.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores the ethical authority of lineage and righteous kingship: a rājarṣi grounds his counsel and identity in dharmic ancestry, reminding listeners that moral and social order is sustained through remembered lineage and responsibility to one’s forebears.
The speaker identifies himself as Nahuṣa, asserting that his fame should be known to the listener, and establishes his status by tracing his descent from King Āyu, presenting himself as an ancient ancestor and legitimate bearer of a renowned royal line.
