Educational Q&A

The verse contrasts sacred study with drunkenness and grasping desire, implying that mere recitation of holy texts is ethically hollow without self-restraint and integrity.

Śalya describes a figure in exaggerated, almost satirical imagery: simultaneously studying the Vedas, drinking liquor, and glaring in all directions as if to consume everything—highlighting a disturbing, uncontrolled temperament.
