दैवं तु न मया शक्यं कर्म कर्तु कथंचन । मैं पुरुषार्थसे जितना हो सकता है, उतना संधि-स्थापनके लिये अधिक-से-अधिक प्रयत्न करूँगा; परंतु प्रारब्धके विधानको किसी प्रकार भी टाल देना या बदल देना मेरे लिये सम्भव नहीं है
daivaṃ tu na mayā śakyaṃ karma kartuṃ kathaṃcana |
അർജുനൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ദൈവവിധിയെ ഞാൻ യാതൊരു വിധത്തിലും നിർവഹിക്കുകയോ മാറ്റുകയോ ചെയ്യാൻ കഴിയില്ല. മനുഷ്യപ്രയത്നംകൊണ്ട് എത്രത്തോളം സാധ്യമോ അത്രത്തോളം സമാധാനം സ്ഥാപിക്കാൻ ഞാൻ പരമാവധി ശ്രമിക്കും; എന്നാൽ പ്രാരബ്ധത്തിന്റെ വിധിയെ ഒഴിവാക്കുകയോ മാറ്റുകയോ ചെയ്യുന്നത് എന്റെ അധികാരത്തിലല്ല.
