विदुरजी कहते हैं--तात! हमने पूर्वपुरुषोंके मुखसे सुन रखा है कि किसी समय एक चिड़ीमारने चिड़ियोंको फँसानेके लिये पृथ्वीपर एक जाल फैलाया ।।
tasmin dvau śakunau baddhau yugapat sahacāriṇau | tāv upādāya taṁ pāśaṁ jagmatuḥ khacarāv ubhau ||
വിദുരൻ പറഞ്ഞു—താതാ! പൂർവ്വികന്മാരുടെ വായിൽ നിന്ന് ഞങ്ങൾ കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്: ഒരിക്കൽ ഒരു പക്ഷിവേട്ടക്കാരൻ പക്ഷികളെ കുടുക്കാൻ ഭൂമിയിൽ വല വിരിച്ചു. ആ വലയിൽ ഒരുമിച്ച് സഞ്ചരിച്ചിരുന്ന രണ്ട് പക്ഷികൾ ഒരേ സമയം കുടുങ്ങി ബന്ധിതരായി. അവർ രണ്ടുപേരും ആ വല തന്നെ ഉയർത്തിക്കൊണ്ട്—ബന്ധിതരായിട്ടും—ആകാശത്തിലേക്ക് പറന്നു പോയി.
