Chapter 61: Karṇa’s martial assurances and Bhīṣma’s strategic rebuttal in the Kuru assembly
एवं ब्रुवन्तं तमुवाच भीष्म: कि कत्थसे कालपरीतबुद्धे न कर्ण जानासि यथा प्रधाने हते हताः स्युर्धुतराष्ट्रपुत्रा:,कर्णको ऐसी बातें करते देख भीष्मजीने उससे कहा--'कर्ण! क्यों अपनी वीरताकी डींग हाँक रहा है? जान पड़ता है, कालने तेरी बुद्धिको ग्रस लिया है। क्या तू नहीं जानता कि युद्धमें तुझ प्रधान वीरके मारे जानेपर सारे धृतराष्ट्रपुत्र ही मृतप्राय हो जायँगे
evaṁ bruvantaṁ tam uvāca bhīṣmaḥ | kiṁ katthase kālaparītabuddhe | na karṇa jānāsi yathā pradhāne hate hatāḥ syur dhṛtarāṣṭraputrāḥ ||
കർണ്ണൻ ഇങ്ങനെ പറയുമ്പോൾ ഭീഷ്മൻ അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു—“കാലം ബുദ്ധിയെ പിടിച്ചെടുത്ത കർണ്ണാ! നീ എന്തിന് ഇങ്ങനെ പുകഴ്ച പറയുന്നു? യുദ്ധത്തിൽ പ്രധാന വീരൻ വീണാൽ ധൃതരാഷ്ട്രപുത്രന്മാർ എല്ലാവരും മരിച്ചവരുപോലെ ആകുമെന്ന് നീ അറിയുന്നില്ലേ?”
