Sañjaya’s Report

अहं तथैवं खलु भाविरूपं पश्यामि बुद्धया स्वयमप्रमत्त: । दृष्टिश्न मे न व्यथते पुराणी संयुध्यमाना धार्तराष्ट्रा न सन्ति

ahaṃ tathaivaṃ khalu bhāvirūpaṃ paśyāmi buddhyā svayam apramattaḥ | dṛṣṭiś ca me na vyathate purāṇī saṃyudhyamānā dhārtarāṣṭrā na santi ||

സഞ്ജയൻ പറഞ്ഞു— “ഞാനും പൂർണ്ണ ജാഗ്രതയോടെ എന്റെ ബുദ്ധിയാൽ ഭാവിയെ ഇതേ രൂപത്തിൽ കാണുന്നു. എന്റെ പുരാതനവും അചഞ്ചലവുമായ ദൃഷ്ടി ഒരിക്കലും തളരുന്നില്ല. ആ ദൃഷ്ടിയാൽ ഞാൻ ഉറപ്പോടെ പറയുന്നു—അവർ യുദ്ധഭൂമിയിൽ ഇറങ്ങി പോരാടുമ്പോൾ ധൃതരാഷ്ട്രപുത്രന്മാർ ജീവനോടെ നിലനിൽക്കുകയില്ല।”

Clear-sighted discernment recognizes that persistent adharma leads to inevitable ruin. Sañjaya’s unwavering ‘ancient vision’ underscores that ethical causality is not merely opinion: when wrongdoing hardens into war, the outcome becomes inescapable.

In Udyoga Parva, as war becomes imminent, Sañjaya reports his own certain foreknowledge: if Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s sons proceed to battle, they will not return alive. It functions as a grave warning to the Kuru court about the consequences of choosing conflict over reconciliation.
