अध्याय ४६ — सभाप्रवेशः तथा सञ्जयस्य दूतवृत्तान्तः
Entry into the Royal Assembly and Sañjaya’s Envoy Report
विविशुस्तां सभां राजन् सुरा: शक्रसदो यथा । राजन! दुःशासन, चित्रसेन, सुबलपुत्र शकुनि, दुर्मुख, दुःसह, कर्ण, उलूक और विविंशति--इन सबने अमर्षमें भरे हुए कुरुराज दुर्योधनको आगे करके उस राजसभामें ठीक वैसे ही प्रवेश किया, जैसे देवतालोग इन्द्रकी सभामें प्रवेश करते हैं ।। ८-९ ह ।। आविशद्धिस्तदा राजज्शूरै: परिघबाहुभि:
vaiśampāyana uvāca | viviśus tāṃ sabhāṃ rājan surāḥ śakrasado yathā | duḥśāsanaś citrasenaḥ subalaputraḥ śakuniḥ durmukho duḥsahaḥ karṇa ulūko viviṃśatiś ca—ete sarve amārṣeṇa pūrṇāḥ kururājaṃ duryodhanaṃ puraskṛtya tāṃ rāja-sabhām āviśan, yathā devā indrasabhām |
വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു— ഹേ രാജാവേ! അവർ ആ രാജസഭയിൽ, ദേവന്മാർ ശക്രന്റെ (ഇന്ദ്രന്റെ) സഭയിൽ പ്രവേശിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ, പ്രവേശിച്ചു. ദുഃശാസനൻ, ചിത്രസേനൻ, സുബലപുത്രൻ ശകുനി, ദുർമുഖൻ, ദുഃസഹൻ, കർണൻ, ഉലൂകൻ, വിവിംശതി—ഇവർ എല്ലാവരും അമർഷം നിറഞ്ഞവരായി—ദുര്യോധനനെ മുൻനിർത്തി—ആ സഭയിൽ പ്രവേശിച്ചു।
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how outward grandeur can mask inward moral disorder: a court may resemble the gods’ assembly in splendor, yet when its leaders are driven by amārṣa (resentful anger) and factional loyalty, it becomes a stage for adharma and the escalation of conflict.
Vaiśampāyana describes Duryodhana entering the royal assembly, led and accompanied by his key supporters—Duḥśāsana, Karṇa, Śakuni, and others—who are portrayed as inflamed with resentment. The simile to the gods entering Indra’s hall intensifies the scene and foreshadows consequential deliberations.
