Educational Q&A

Unchecked anger born of wounded honor, when joined with grief, can drive speech and action that reshape destinies. The verse highlights the ethical tension between personal agency and the consequences of forceful decisions by the powerful.

Bhīṣma narrates that Amba, the eldest daughter of the king of Kāśī, is overwhelmed with anger and sorrow. With tearful eyes and a voice choked by sobs, she begins to speak—marking the turning point where her grievance is voiced and the conflict escalates.
