जीमूत एव घर्मान्ति महावातसमीरित: । समायुक्तस्तु कौन्तेयो वासुदेवसहायवान् | तरुणश्न कृती चैव जीर्णावावामुभावषि,ग्रीष्म-ऋतुके अन्तमें प्रचण्ड वायुसे प्रेरित महामेघकी भाँति श्रीकृष्णसहित अर्जुन युद्धके लिये तैयार है। वह अस्त्रोंका विद्वान् और तरुण भी है। इधर हम दोनों वृद्ध हो चले हैं
jīmūta eva gharmānte mahāvātasamīritaḥ | samāyuktas tu kaunteyo vāsudevasahāyavān || taruṇaś ca kṛtī caiva jīrṇāv āvām ubhāv api ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു— ഗ്രീഷ്മാന്തത്തിൽ പ്രചണ്ഡവായുവാൽ തള്ളപ്പെടുന്ന മഹാമേഘംപോലെ, വാസുദേവൻ (ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണൻ) സഹായിയായി കുന്തീപുത്രൻ അർജുനൻ യുദ്ധത്തിന് പൂർണ്ണമായി സജ്ജനാണ്. അവൻ യുവാവും കൃത്യനിഷ്ഠനും ആയുധവിദ്യയിൽ നിപുണനും ആകുന്നു; എന്നാൽ ഞങ്ങൾ ഇരുവരും വാർദ്ധക്യത്തിൽ ജീർണ്ണരായിരിക്കുന്നു।
