prakāśakarmā tapano yo 'yaṃ devo virocanaḥ | ajījanat tvāṃ mayy eṣa karṇa śastrabhṛtāṃ varam ||
The verse frames martial prowess and personal identity as rooted in a higher, divinely sanctioned origin, suggesting that excellence and destiny are not merely self-made but arise from causes beyond ordinary human control.
Karna is speaking and invokes a radiant divine figure (identified with the Sun through the epithet tapanaḥ) to assert a divinely grounded origin and to claim preeminence among warriors, strengthening his self-presentation and legitimacy in the unfolding conflict.
