भीष्मेण हि महाप्राज्ञ पित्रा ते बाह्लिकेन च । दत्तों5श: पाण्डुपुत्राणां भेदाद्‌ भीतैररिंदम,'शत्रुदमन! महाप्राज्ञ! आपसकी फूटके भयसे ही पितामह भीष्मने, तुम्हारे पिताने और महाराज बाह्लीकने भी पाण्डवोंको राज्यका भाग प्रदान किया है

bhīṣmeṇa hi mahāprājña pitrā te bāhlikena ca | datto ’ṁśaḥ pāṇḍuputrāṇāṁ bhedād bhītair ariṁdama ||

അരിന്ദമാ, മഹാപ്രാജ്ഞാ! ആഭ്യന്തര ഭേദവും പിളര്‍പ്പും ഉണ്ടാകുമെന്ന ഭയത്താലാണ് പിതാമഹന്‍ ഭീഷ്മനും, നിന്റെ പിതാവും, രാജാവ് ബാഹ്ലീകനും പാണ്ഡുപുത്രന്മാര്‍ക്ക് രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ ഒരു പങ്ക് നല്‍കിയത്.
