मा तात श्रियमायान्तीमवमंस्था: समुद्यताम्‌ | अर्ध प्रदाय पार्थेभ्यो महतीं श्रियमाप्लुहि,“तात! अपने घरमें आनेको उद्यत हुई राजलक्ष्मीका अपमान न करो। कुन्तीके पुत्रोंको आधा राज्य देकर स्वयं विशाल सम्पत्तिका उपभोग करो

mā tāta śriyam āyantīm avamaṃsthāḥ samudyatām | ardhaṃ pradāya pārthebhyo mahatīṃ śriyam āpluhi ||

മകനേ! നിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തിലേക്ക് വരാൻ ഒരുങ്ങുന്ന രാജലക്ഷ്മിയെ അവമാനിക്കരുത്. പാർത്ഥന്മാർക്ക് അർദ്ധരാജ്യം നൽകി, നീ മഹത്തായ സമൃദ്ധി അനുഭവിക്ക.

Educational Q&A

Do not reject rightful prosperity by clinging to greed and pride; a ruler should choose fairness and reconciliation—sharing the kingdom with the Pāṇḍavas—so that peace and lasting prosperity may be secured.

In the Udyoga Parva’s diplomacy setting, counsel is being voiced (reported by Vaiśaṃpāyana) urging the Kuru side to avert conflict: grant the Pāṇḍavas their due share (half the realm) rather than insulting the ‘approaching’ royal fortune that comes with righteous settlement.
