Strī Parva 1: Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Lament and Saṃjaya’s Consolation
विस्फुलिड्रा इव होतान् दहन्ति किल मानवान् | जहीहि मन्युं बुद्धया वै धारयात्मानमात्मना
visphuliṅgā iva hotān dahanti kila mānavān | jahīhi manyuṁ buddhyā vai dhārayātmānam ātmanā |
വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ശോകത്തിന്റെ കണ്ണുനീർ അഗ്നിസ്ഫുലിംഗങ്ങളെപ്പോലെ മനുഷ്യരെ തീർച്ചയായും ദഹിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; അതിനാൽ ക്രോധവും ശോകവും ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച്, ബുദ്ധിയാൽ നിന്നെ നീ തന്നേ സ്ഥിരപ്പെടുത്തുക।
वैशमग्पायन उवाच
Grief and anger, if indulged, scorch the person like fire-sparks; one should relinquish such agitation and stabilize the mind through buddhi (discernment) and self-mastery.
In the opening of Strī-parvan, amid the post-war lamentation, Vaiśaṃpāyana reports counsel aimed at calming overwhelming sorrow: the speaker urges restraint, warning that tears and rage can become destructive and must be checked by inner discipline.
