भीष्म उवाच अशक्ति: क्षत्रधर्मेण वैश्यधर्मेण वर्तयेत् । कृषिगोरक्ष्यमास्थाय व्यसने वृत्तिसंक्षये
bhīṣma uvāca aśaktiḥ kṣatradharmeṇa vaiśyadharmeṇa vartayet | kṛṣigorakṣyam āsthāya vyasane vṛttisaṃkṣaye ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ക്ഷാത്രധർമ്മം അനുസരിച്ച് ജീവിക്കാൻ അശക്തനായാൽ വൈശ്യധർമ്മം അനുസരിച്ച് ജീവിക്കണം. ദുരിതകാലത്ത്, പതിവായ ഉപജീവനം ക്ഷയിക്കുമ്പോൾ, കൃഷിയും ഗോരക്ഷയും (പശുപാലനം) ആശ്രയിച്ച് നിർവഹിക്കണം.
