आपद्धर्मे वैश्यवृत्तिः, विक्रय-निषेधाः, तथा ब्रह्म-क्षत्र-सम्बन्धः

भवते*हं ददानीदं भवानेतत् प्रयच्छतु । रुचितो वर्तते धर्मो न बलात् सम्प्रवर्तते
bhavate ’haṃ dadānīdaṃ bhavān etat prayacchatu | rucito vartate dharmo na balāt sampravartate ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—‘ഞാൻ നിനക്ക് ഇത് തരുന്നു; നീ പകരം എനിക്ക് അത് തരുക’—ഇങ്ങനെ ഇരുപക്ഷത്തിന്റെയും ഇഷ്ടസമ്മതത്തോടെ നടക്കുന്ന വസ്തുവിനിമയമാണ് ധർമ്മം. ബലപ്രയോഗത്തോടെ നടത്തുന്ന വിനിമയം ധർമ്മമല്ല.
