Āśrama-dharma: Duties of the Four Life-Stages (आश्रमधर्मः)
प्रजापतिर्हि वर्णानां दासं शूद्रमकल्पयत् । तस्माच्छुद्रस्य वर्णानां परिचर्या विधीयते
prajāpatir hi varṇānāṃ dāsaṃ śūdram akalpayat | tasmāc chūdrasya varṇānāṃ paricaryā vidhīyate ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—പ്രജാപതി ശൂദ്രനെ മറ്റു വർണങ്ങളുടെ പരിചാരകനായി സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു; അതിനാൽ ശൂദ്രനു മൂന്നു വർണങ്ങളോടുള്ള സേവനവും പരിചര്യയും ശാസ്ത്രവിധിത കർത്തവ്യമായി നിശ്ചയിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
