वैशम्पायन उवाच शृणु तत्त्वेन राजेन्द्र कीर्त्यमानं मयानघ । वासुदेवं पुरस्कृत्य यदकुर्वत पाण्डवा:,वैशम्पायनजीने कहा--निष्पाप नरेश! भगवान्‌ श्रीकृष्णको आगे करके पाण्डवोंने जो कुछ किया था, उसे ठीक-ठीक बताता हूँ, ध्यान देकर सुनो

vaiśampāyana uvāca | śṛṇu tattvena rājendra kīrtyamānaṃ mayānagha | vāsudevaṃ puraskṛtya yad akurvata pāṇḍavāḥ ||

വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഹേ രാജേന്ദ്രാ, ഹേ നിർമലനേ! ഞാൻ സത്യമായി വിവരിക്കുന്നതു ശ്രദ്ധയോടെ കേൾക്കുക. വാസുദേവനെ (ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണനെ) മുൻപിൽ നിർത്തി പാണ്ഡവർ ചെയ്തതെല്ലാം ഞാൻ യഥാതഥമായി പറയുന്നു.
