एष वै यस्त्वया पृष्टस्तेन तेषां प्रकीर्तित: । ततः श्रुतो मया चापि तवाख्येयोडद्य भारत,सिद्धों और चारणोंसे सेवित गिरिवर मेरुके रमणीय शिखरपर वेदाभ्यास करते हुए हम सब शिष्योंके मनमें किसी समय यही संदेह उत्पन्न हुआ, जिसे आज तुमने पूछा है। भारत! व्यासजीने हम शिष्योंको जो उत्तर दिया, उसे मैंने भी उन्हींके मुखसे सुना था। वही आज तुम्हें भी बताना है
eṣa vai yastvayā pṛṣṭas tena teṣāṃ prakīrtitaḥ | tataḥ śruto mayā cāpi tavākhyeyo ’dya bhārata ||
വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ഹേ ഭാരതാ! നീ ചോദിച്ചതുതന്നെയാണ് ആ വിഷയമ്; അതേ പ്രസംഗത്തിൽ അത് വിശദീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഞാനും പിന്നീട് അത് കേട്ടിരുന്നു; ഇന്ന് അതുതന്നെ ഞാൻ നിന്നോട് പറയുന്നു.
